Welcome to Qhispikay Kawsay, pronounced Kiss-pi-KI Cow-sigh, meaning liberation of one’s life. We offer varied traditional shamanic healing programs at our 600-acre Amazon rainforest nature preserve outside of Iquitos, Peru. This retreat is an introduction to the consciousness and healing afforded through the shamanic work with Ayahuasca and Huachuma.
Join us in traditional Ayahuasca and Huachuma ceremonies led by Banco Ayahuasquero Don Romulo and his son, Master Ayahuasquero Don Winister. Don Romulo began training as a shaman and drinking Ayahuasca with his father when he was eight years old. His curing work with Ayahuasca began when he was 12, and he is an incredible Ayahuasca shaman with over 70 years experience as a healer. His son Don Winister is also an amazing master Ayahuasca shaman with great ability and experience spanning over 30 years. Currently, Don Romulo is one of the oldest traditional masters left in the region of Iquitos, Peru, over 80 years of age. Master Huachumero Cesar and Huachumero William Menech will also participate in the Ayahuasca ceremonies and conduct the San Pedro ceremonies.
“William and his team helped my wife and I over and above what I have ever experienced before, and we have worked with many different ayahuasqueros over the last three years. The work they did was extraordinary; with such care, love and dedication.” – Richard K. – UK
Our Medicines Ayahuasca & San Pedro
We know the time and effort it takes you to travel all the way to Peru to work with the plant medicines, so we make sure that the medicine is of the highest caliber.
We prepare our Ayahuasca with Cielo Ayahuasca, Chacruna, Huambisa, and Bobinsana.
These particular plant mixtures are used to help really open up the vision. They are a strong yet safe combination.
Our San Pedro is cooked in the traditional fashion starting with live cactus, and many times we will be cooking this medicine together with you so you can be a part of the preparation process.
During the first four nighttime Ayahuasca ceremonies, you will be digging deeper into the inner realms of your soul, while shamans will be probing and detecting different spiritual, psychic, and physical issues you may be dealing with.
Our shamans do work and spiritual treatment on every guest.
Ceremonies begin between 9 to 10 P.M. and end when the last of the shamanic treatment is over, which is about 3 to 5 A.M
All the shamans will be defining and treating spiritual issues and opening up your insight and shamanic vision concerning your own personal growth and for your own personal development in shamanic spiritual matters.
Huachuma or San Pedro
Our last ceremony will be the Huachuma ceremony, which will begin approximately at 1 P.M. and continue until midnight or later, depending on the work being done. Huachuma is a sacred medicine that connects to healing spirits that reside outside the initiate, as opposed to the internal realms to which Ayahuasca connects.
Huachuma aligns Ayahuasca within the body and spirit.
All of this work is done through the skilled use and direction of Maestro Huachumero Cesar Vasquez and Huachumero William Menech.
The true purpose of San Pedro is to advance your spiritual life and connection to the energy of celestial realms.
After the Huachuma ceremony, the energy of Huachuma will continue to teach and direct your life ever so subtly long after you leave the jungle and our retreat center. They will fortify your spirit with positive energy and help guide you to find your life’s purpose.
Energetic Plant Baths
After the fourth Ayahuasca ceremony, Don Romulo and Don Winister will be administering energetic plant baths that help seal in the work done with Ayahuasca also helping with spiritual flowering, energetic cleansing and good fortune by using many different plants in the baths which have energetic signatures that function by intermingling with the guest receiving the baths.
After the plant baths, each shaman will seal in a part of their medicine, the Tobacco, Huachuma and Ayahuasca. And all will impart strong spiritual protection that will be sealed upon the initiate so it remains permanently with them after they leave the jungle.
This process is a real shamanic initiation and purification that opens the initiate to the greater spiritual world that we are all a part of, increasing your awareness with more clarity of the operations of reality as perceived by the initiate.
Always giving thanks to the creator for creating these sacraments to help mankind heal and advance spiritually.
Shamanic Initiation & Purification
Shamanic initiation is the commencement of being exposed to and working with genuine shamans and the sacraments or sacred plant that shamans use to transcend ordinary states of consciousness. You will experience firsthand the opening of these realms as you are being initiated, so you can begin to learn and grow in the shamanic realms of awareness.
The Purgation, and Shamanic Purification
The Purge in shamanism is a form of purification which causes vomiting during the Ayahuasca ceremonies. Through the words of the shamans, this purge will expel negative energy from you.
In shamanic terms, different issues that you experience in life of a negative nature are forms of energy. These events will leave an energetic imprint upon you as you go through such negative situations in your life.
Through the process of participating in Ayahuasca and Huachuma ceremonies with genuine shamans, they will be able to detect and help you expel such imprints.
The shamans teach that these imprints first manifest as negative energies and afterward begin to manifest as mental, emotional, and possibly even physical imbalances or illness.
From the shamanic viewpoint, the purge enables you to be free of these energies. Thus the term “shamanic purification” is properly used to describe what this process of purgation or purification is.
“I have never seen so much compassion, loving, understanding and nurturing care from strangers and here I am surrounded with all of this. It was an amazing experience! I have no more migraines! After 7 years the doctors couldn’t help me and I went to Peru for 2 weeks – and I was healed!” – Juliette Wilkerson, United States
During our Ayahuasca retreats in Iquitos, Peru, not only will we be working in four Ayahuasca ceremonies, we will also be conducting one San Pedro ceremony.
San Pedro cactus is traditionally named Huachuma here in Peru. The San Pedro or Huachuma ceremonies will be conducted by two highly trained genuine Huachumeros, or San Pedro shamans, one of whom is a master of this medicine who really knows and understands the deep inner workings of this sacrament and can thereby facilitate a much deeper level of shamanic healing.

Ayahuasca Retreats and Our Conservation Vision
Qhispikay Kawsay Ayahuasca Retreats is located on a 600-acre reserve of Amazon rainforest named Amadeus, derived from the Latin words ama (love) and deus (god), or “to love God.” All our proceeds are dedicated to enhance the conservation and growth of this property. The land contains a plethora of bird and animal species, many of which are indigenous to this area of the jungle. Over time we will reintroduce more animals and birds to help maintain and grow this property’s rich biodiversity.
By being a part of this project you will continue to pave the way for everyone to experience the blessings of shamanic healing through both Ayahuasca and Huachuma as you support the growth of Qhispikay Kawsay Ayahuasca Retreats, our healing sanctuary.
